Freefall I

Freefall was created with the intention of capturing the intense feeling of staring out into the Indian Ocean on a recent trip. The swirling and sensuous shapes that form mirror the shapeshifting nature of the sea. The white accents represent the crest of waves - playful yet commanding. I hope you feel a sense of calm empowerment when you observe this piece, and it too reminds you of the mesmerizing power of the shape of water.

How to interpret

• The acrylic fluid pour method of painting allows the paint to spread in controlled directions which creates fluid lines and shapes
• Shades of blue and accents of white are used to create depth and contrast within a monochromatic colour palette
• The controlled transition at the edges of the painting lead the viewer to feel as if the work is 'never ending'
• Small cells in the bottom left hand corner mimic sea spray from intense waves colliding
